As a fellow who enjoys traveling around as he teaches online, I keep an eye on Lonely Planet’s Thorn Tree Forum. One of the categories inside the Forum is titled The Long Haul – Living & Working Abroad. I check in the Long Haul from time to time and post encouragement to potential travelers wanting to know the best way to earn a living while in a country other than the United States.
I always chime in and regale the posters with my high spirited tales of online teaching while on the road, so to speak.
Occasionally, I run into a Doubting Thomas who responds to my energetic championing of online teaching as the very best way to earn a healthy living while traipsing about the globe in the follow fashion:
“Who does this character (The Traveling Online Teacher) think he is!? Is he so shameless as to suggest that a person can live in Mexico and earn $45,000 USD per year off of a laptop?”
Well, yes, that is exactly what I shamelessly suggest to anyone who willing to listen.
Of course, with international air travel as readily available as it is today, the definition of “living” in another country is looser than it has been in the past.
For example, it would be entirely possible to “live” on the beach in Puerto Escondido, Mexico for the winter months and downtown Montreal, Canada during the summer months, but there are those who have spent their entire lives in such places as Dry Prong, Louisiana that would call flying between countries every six months just “visiting.”
I no longer consider myself visiting or living any particular place. After the Great Flood of New Orleans, I discovered that online teaching allowed me to cast anchor anywhere without actually considering myself to be there.
I know that must sound confusing, but until you experience the actual prospect of returning from your tailor, as I did today, with a newly fitted Brooks Brothers double-breasted blazer and literally being able to take a taxi to the airport and fly to another country overnight without missing even one day’s online teaching, then you will be a Doubting Thomas.
I urge you to avail yourself of the freedom offered by online teaching. Start you search for an online teaching career by visiting onlineteachingsearch.com today!

T.O.T. , something to desire, a lifestyle to emulate. Communities are being born on line and teachers have all ways been unified. Thank you for sharing with us this new growth potential and resource. The love of teaching can be progressive. Richard D.
Keep up the good work. My wife and I grossed 115K last year across 4 schools. It's all good.
